Balmoral Farms: Mini Lamancha Breeder and Soap maker
In 2025 we made the decision to add dairy goats to our home. Looking to add more to our day to day because why not? I began doing research on different breeds and what would not only work best for us, but was also accessible to us. We found that Mini Lamanchas were a very popular breed for our area due to the fact they are such a hardy breed. Mini Lamanchas are a smaller version of their bigger ancestor the Lamancha, being bred to the Nigerian Dwarf to bring down the size. The most noticeable trait of a Lamancha are their tiny ears. They have 2 types of acceptable ears, the gopher ear (tiny nubs for ears) and elf ears (slightly larger elf type ears) They still have the same traits as the Lamancha breed, but in a smaller version. They do well in the different climates we have in our area. We found a local breeder who was amazing to offer her knowledge to us, and we added 3 does to our home.
Rainbow Oaks Zephyr
Zephyr is our oldest doe at 2 years old. We purchased her in milk as our first milking doe. She produced a wonderful amount of milk for us in our first year and we just love her. She is a chocolate with white polls and blue eyes.
Rainbow Oaks Gouda at Balmoral
Gouda was the second goat to add to our herd and I think the most stunning. She is a beautiful black and tan buckskin with frosted ears, white poll, random white and blue eyes. Gouda is sadly the least friendly of our herd, but we are hoping she becomes a wonderful producer.
Rainbow Oaks Brie at Balmoral
Brie is the youngest of herd, she is a red with random white. Brie is also the niece of Zephyr and the friendliest little goat. I am pretty sure she will crawl in your pocket if you let her.
Hand made goats milk soap
After getting into dairy goats and having an abundance of milk I decided to try my hand at Goats milk soap. I had always been a big fan of it and wanted to try and see if I could make my own soap. What started as just something to do for fun turn into something to bring in a little extra money. People started asking to buy my soap, and I was selling out faster then I could produce it. Its been a lot of fun to try new scents and colors and experiment with the soap. I personally am loving having my own stock of fresh soap at all times.
